The Tarot of Marseilles is an ancient tarot that was made for the French game of Tarot. Occultists later adapted the tarot for spiritual purposes including tarot readings. This deck pre-dates the Golden Dawn deck, and is in a manner of speaking, the grandfather of both the RWS and Thoth decks.
